There are just two days to go for schools in the Bristol area to get their artwork in for the Brain Art competition. So that we were not completely inundated with entries, we have asked that schools submit no more than three artworks in each age category. We hoped that schools would have their own internal competition and send in their winners to compete against entries from other schools. The competition is open to 5–18 year olds and there will be one winner and one runner-up chosen by a panel of judges in each of three categories: Primary (Key stages 1 and 2); Lower secondary (Key stage 3); and Upper secondary (Key stages 4 and 5).
Sadly these rules excluded some children, particularly those home-schooled or over 16s not currently in education. One such young person was Niamh Phillips who wrote to tell us she had an extreme love for art and science. A girl after my own heart, I decided to ask her to produce a piece of artwork for my blog instead. So here it is. Niamh is 17 years old and due to start an art course this month.
