These photographs show the evolution of the painting, Emergent Properties (2022-24). The first drawing was added to the canvas using a grid and is from a photograph of the fire escape map from Cramlington Children’s Hospital (Northumberland). Subsequent drawings were added by first copying onto acetate and then projecting onto the canvas and using oil paint to copy the lines and shapes.
